Deborah Quinn Munson – The Importance of Composition

October 12 @ 9:00 am - October 14 @ 4:00 pm

Deborah Quinn-Munson Three-Day Pastel Workshop

“The Importance of Composition – The 80/20 Concept”

deborah-quinn-munson

LOCATION: Southington Community Cultural Arts Center
93 Main Street, Southington, CT 06489

DATES:  Thursday, October 12, to Saturday, October 14th.  9 – 4 PM

Workshop Description:

Students will focus on composition as it applies to creating dynamic paintings but attention will also be paid to color concepts. Several stress-free exercises will be suggested to illustrate these concepts. Deborah’s approach to design and composition centers on the study of the 80%-20% relationship of large shapes to small, light value to dark and warm color to cool in dynamic pastel paintings. Watercolor will be used for under painting during demonstrations. For students, this is optional; they may concentrate on studies or create more finished paintings. Individual attention will be given to each student.

About the Artist:
Quinn-Munson is in the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, an Artist Member of the Copley Society of Art and the Salmagundi Club. After attending De Cordova Museum School, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Hampshire, a Master of Arts and Liberal Studies at Wesleyan University, and attended Lyme Academy of Art. Her work has been published in The Artist’s Magazine and The Pastel Journal, highlighting her work in both oil and pastel. Private and Corporate collections include Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, Campbell’s Soup Company, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Lankenau Medical Center and Emerson Resort and Spa.

Artist Statement:
“I make art because it allows me to be most nearly myself. It is the foundation upon which I share how I see the world around me. My studio, with its smell of paint, familiar clutter, and the invitation to begin anew, is the door that opens into my creativity.”
